While most of the spiderweb cracks are superficial, if you find any that are longer than 2" it may be an indication that a larger problem exists. The boat may have been in a collision and has gone through or is in need of extensive repairs. It would be advisable to get an expert to do a more thorough inspection before you decide to purchase it.
Inspect for Other Types of Damage:
When checking out old used boats for sale there may be other signs of damage that could easily be overlooked. If you see flexing, cracking, mold, or moisture around the fiberglass or wooden areas it may be an indication of rotting or the fiberglass breaking down. Plywood could have been delaminated allowing for more moisture to seep in. While these things can be fixed, cleaned up, or repaired it is quite likely that it will cost you much more than you bargained for. It may be better to walk away and find another boat to suit your needs.
Sturdiness:
You will also want to check the sturdiness of the seats. A loose seat could mean something as simple as the bolts needing replacement or it could mean that the wooden floor has started to rot. The seat should be firmly secured in place and if it moves even the slightest you want to make sure it's not a major problem you'll have to deal with later.
Mold And Mildew:
Because boats are meant for the water, mold and mildew are a common problem, especially in older boats. In most cases, the upholstery and covers can be easily cleaned or even replaced if need be. However, if you find extensive mold in the boat it could have spread to other areas where cleaning could be virtually impossible. For example, mold in the wood is very difficult and costly to remove and likely will require replacing all the contaminated wood. It might be smarter to avoid the job altogether.
Engine And Electronic Systems:
It goes without saying that it is vital to check the boat's engine and electronic systems. Without them the boat would be totally useless. Buying a boat is a major investment that can be costly even in the best of conditions but when you're considering old used boats for sale you have to exercise even more caution in order to get the best deal for your budget.
