Leukemia is a type of blood cancer. However, it is more than simply a problem with blood cells. It actually starts in the tissue where blood is produced, and this leads to an abnormality in the white blood cells. In the blood of someone with leukemia, abnormal white blood cells have a different life cycle to normal cells, swamping the healthy red and white blood cells.

Leukemia is not asymptomatic, however. If people become more aware of the different leukemia cancer signs and symptoms, they will be better equipped to take appropriate action as and when needed. The problem is that the exact symptoms often vary between different patients, as well as between the different types of leukemia. There are two main types of leukemia, which are chronic leukemia and acute leukemia, and both have their own set of symptoms.
