Having a healthy lifestyle can mean a lot of different things. It can mean that you exercise often, or that you take your vitamins every single day. One of the most essential parts of having a healthy lifestyle is eating correctly. People who have acid reflux disease, or who have suffered from heartburn can also have a healthy lifestyle, and can avoid having these conditions that cause them pain and take over their lives. One thing that is commonly associated with acid reflux and heartburn is the foods that people cannot eat. There is not enough focus on the foods that people can eat. There are many delicious foods that can reduce the chances of having symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn that can also replace the foods that trigger these symptoms. Knowing which foods to eat can help mealtime be less of a stress factor, because you know that these foods are only going to help and not harm your body.

1.) Oatmeal

One of the reasons that people continue to feel the symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn is because they eat too much. When the stomach is incredibly full, there is a lot of pressure, which causes the acids in the stomach to try and get into the esophagus, causing the pain that comes along with both conditions. Oatmeal is a perfect solution to the problem, because you can get full off of little amounts of it, and it does not cause reflux. You can eat it for breakfast, or anytime that you are hungry because you will not eat too much, and still feel full.

2.) Celery

Celery has always been noted as one of the best foods for you, and now it is the best if you want to avoid acid reflux and heartburn symptoms. Celery has high water content, and almost no calories, which makes it great for people with acid reflux because it has nothing that can trigger symptoms. It is also an appetite suppressant, which is good for people who tend to eat too much.

3.) Bananas

Many fruits that are on the market today have an incredibly high acid content, which does not mix well in the stomachs of people who have acid reflux or are prone to heartburn. Luckily, bananas do not have a high acid content, and they are high in potassium, giving you other benefits as well. About 1% of people who have acid reflux said bananas did not settle well with them, so make sure to try eating them in small doses first, just in case.

4.) Egg Whites

If you are looking for a breakfast food that will not cause heartburn symptoms by lunchtime, you should try egg whites. They are very low in acid and also provide a good source of protein to start the day out right. Pair with a small bowl of oatmeal for a meal that will fill you up without eating too much. Just avoid the yolks of the eggs, as they will cause symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn.

5.) Lean Poultry And Other Meats

You can still get the protein you want with a delicious dinner, you just need to take the time to prepare them correctly, as well as take time in the grocery store to avoid the fatty meats that cause symptoms. Try grilling, broiling, baking or steaming chicken or turkey. Avoid frying the meat and remove the skin. You can even have steak as long as it is lean and is not an extremely fatty cut.
