Allergies can stem from a variety of places and include a number of triggers. Some of the results can be uncomfortable, painful, or even fatal, which is one reason that having yourself tested for allergies early on is important. While not all allergies are detectable at all times, and some may come and go as they please, the most important thing to remember is that most allergies are treatable in one form or another, and that there is constant scientific research being undergone to prevent fatalities from occurring for those allergies that can cause death.

Food Allergies:

One of the most predominant allergies found in North America are those associated with food. Many people go through life being able to eat anything they please, while others suffer from nut, strawberry, dairy, and gluten allergies which prevent them from enjoying the same foods as others. Some allergy causes and treatments like those for peanuts are more extreme and can require the sufferer to carry an EpiPen in case of emergency, while others like dairy allergies can be avoided with a pill taken before any meal containing lactose. This pill helps the user to break down the properties in the dairy that their body isn't able to process so that they can enjoy things like yogurt, ice cream, and baked goods containing dairy products. For gluten allergies, sensitivities, and celiac disease, there are many gluten-free products now available on the market.

Seasonal Allergies:

Allergy causes and treatments associated with the seasons are usually the result of exposure to pollen, which the body assumes is an invader and releases antibodies which can cause you to become stuffed up, sore, achy, have a runny nose, and suffer from sneezing and coughing attacks. Spring and summer seasonal allergy causes include ragweed and hay fever, while fall and winter allergies may be due to dust, dust mites, and mold. There are many over-the-counter treatments that you can take to help put those itchy eyes and runny noses to bed, but you should consult a doctor before choosing which one to use.

Scent-Related Allergies:

If you have ever caught a whiff of a strong perfume and felt your head grow sore, you may suffer from scent-related allergies. As far as allergy causes and treatments go, this can be a truly difficult one to escape, because unlike avoiding certain foods, scents are everywhere. Deodorants, perfumes, body sprays, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and creams are all around us and in malls and schools and although many places are going scent-free now, this isn't abided by all. Fabric softener can cause somebody with an allergy to go into fits of coughing, and wet paint can cause throats to close over and swell, and those who suffer from scent allergies could die if they don't seek help immediately. There are pills and injections that can be taken for scent allergies, but the best treatment is to stay away from whatever is bothering you. This could be cigarette smoke, or the smell of a certain flower; it takes time to seek out the cause sometimes, but your physician can help.
