When it comes to buying groceries, there are a select few items I don't mind spending the extra money on. After all, I think the food we put into our bodies is one of the most important things we can spend our money on, and splurge for that matter.

After getting paid every two weeks, I tend to do my bi-weekly budgeting. Most of my income after rent and bills often goes to groceries. This is one area of my budget where I refuse to skimp on, because I know and fully understand the benefits of putting healthy food into my body. I figure if I am able to consistently eat healthy, organic, products then; this in return may eliminate how many times I visit a doctors office per year.

Below are the 5 foods that I will always splurge on no matter what the circumstance may be:

1.) Cage-Free Organic Eggs

With all of the salmonella concerns, more than 500 million eggs have been recalled nationwide which has created illness for thousands of people. This is one reason why I stay away from regular eggs and only buy cage free eggs. Cage free eggs are simply eggs from birds that aren't raised in cages, as organic eggs eat an organic feed and don't receive any kind of chemicals or antibiotics or vaccines. Lastly, cage-free organic eggs taste so much better so why chance buying regular eggs when you are at the risk of a deadly disease?

2.) Almond Milk

Almond milk has slowly become a very popular, healthy substitute recently due to it's high nutritional value, lactose free, gluten free, soy free, casien and cholesterol free, and also free of saturated fats. Almond milk also contains a high amount of antioxidants and when compared to regular whole milk, almond milk contains alot less calories than regular whole milk. Almond milk is, after all, made up of just ground almonds and filtered water.

3.) Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Fresh fruits and fresh vegetables are always a no brainer for me. When comparing them to canned fruits and vegetables, or frozen fruits and vegetables the taste is undeniable as well as the nutrients. Once a fruit or vegetable is frozen or canned, it immediately can lose some nutritional value. This is just one of the reasons why I will always splurge and purchase fresh fruits and veggies.

4.) Organic, Grass Fed Meat and Poultry

The times I do eat meat, which is rare, I never mind spending the extra money on all organic, grass fed products. However, when comparing organic, to non-organic the benefits certainly favor non-organic. Perhaps the most substanital difference between organic and non-organic meat and poultry is pesticides, chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, and other synthetic substances used to assist these animals in faster growth.

5.) Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

For me coconut oil tends to not only taste better than olive oil, grape seed oil, or avacado oil, but it's nutritional factors far outweigh olive oil, and all other oils. Coconut Oil is known to increase you energy expenditure, thus assisting you in burning more fat, as well improve blood cholesterol levels and help lower the risk of heart disease. Lastly, Coconut Oil can also protect your hair against damage and also serve as a skin moisturize.
