Uric acid in high levels in one’s body can be bad for one’s health. This condition can result into gout. This statement might seem ludicrous especially as cases of gout seem to be so uncommon, but it occurs more often than many people think, as it is a form of arthritis that is encouraged by the presence of high uric acid in the blood. If you have gout, or you think that your uric acid level is high, you should consult with a physician for a diagnosis and treatment options.

Once you have the go ahead from your doctor you can begin eating a healthy diet that will help to lower the uric acid level in your blood. This will include a number of ingredients and also has some restrictions. One thing that you will need to cut from your diet is alcohol and meats, which are rich in purine, such as seafood and poultry. You may also want to start eating more foods that lower uric acid.

1.) Water

Water is an essential part of life, whether you are reducing your uric acid level or not. It helps to flush out your system, removing toxins and allowing your body to better digest the food that is ingested. It is important to drink six to eight full glasses of water a day, but new research has shown that drinking as much as ten to twelve glasses could be even more beneficial. This does not include the water found in fruit juice, milk, and other beverages; it should be consumed as a natural source on top of the other beverages you enjoy.

2.) Limes

Studies have shown that the citric acid in lime is actually a remedy for the build up of uric acid, as it is a solvent of this natural chemical. If you need to lower your uric acid level, you can do so by drinking fresh lime juice. This can be consumed on its own, or squeezed into water to help it go down. Be sure that you aren’t mixing a spoonful of sugar into the lime juice. This could be tempting because it will, of course, take some of the tang out of the lime, but it will also reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

3.) Flaxseed Oil

Some of the foods which are suggested to be avoided are nuts and seeds, but the oil from these ingredients is actually healthy. While you should still try to minimize the amount of actual seeds or nuts you ingest if you are working to lower uric acid, flaxseed oil is one of the foods that lower uric acid. One tablespoon of flaxseed oil each day can help keep the level down. Pour it over a salad with a dash of vinegar to cut the fat if you are unable to drink the oil straight.

4.) Cherries

Not only are cherries a sweet treat when you are avoiding refined sugar the way that you should be when finding foods that lower uric acid, but they also work to lower these acid levels naturally as well. They can be eaten fresh or even bottled, so long as they aren’t soaked in additional sugar or candied. Some people find it difficult to snack on enough cherries throughout the day, especially in one sitting, but you can also use a natural cherry extract, as long as it is pure.
