Losing weight isn't all about just working out and taking supplements. If you are looking to shed a few pounds it has to start in the kitchen, rather than the gym.

Most fitness professionals I speak to, say losing weight is 85% diet, and 15% gym. Truth is, I think they are right and I believe them. Along my health and wellness journey for the past 30 years, I've found that certain foods certainly can support weight loss naturally, taste good, and promote good health; while other foods you think that are healthy, can actually do your body harm and assist in weight gain.

Below are some of my favorite go-to foods and ingredients that can not only promote great health and wellness, but naturally support in weight loss.

1.) Lemons

A warm glass of water with a lemon slice is how I start every single day. Lemons are not only a great antioxidant, but a great way to detox your body first thing in the morning. Also, I tend to squeeze half a lemon on all my salads, as lemon helps aid in food digestion and adds great flavor to any leafy green or vegetable.

2.) Cinnamon

Studies have shown that cinnamon aids in weight loss. Cinnamon has the capability to manage blood sugar levels and increase insulin levels in your body which is an integral part of the entire weight loss process. This may be difficult to believe for an ingredient that tastes very good, but it can be extremely good for you in small amounts. I tend to sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon on all my smoothies, juices, cereal, as well as oatmeal.

3.) Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is almost always in everyone's pantry. It's made from fermented apple cider and is known to help with blood sugar control, as well as diabetes. Rich in numerous vitamins, amino acids, and minerals, apple cider vinegar has been proven to aid in weight loss. Whether you sip it in the morning, add to it salad dressings, or marinades, it's health benefits will assist you in shedding a few pounds.

4.) Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is something that I cook with daily, and makes any dish taste that much better. Coconut oil is known as the world's most friendly fat when it comes to weight loss. It has a distinctive mix of fatty acids with extremely dominant effects on your metabolism. Coconut oil is also known to help you rid that dangerous fat in your abdominal area. I use coconut oil to cook almost all my veggies, eggs, meat, and also add it into my smoothies and juices.

5.) Broth or Vegetable Stock

Broth or vegetable stock is not only easy to make, but is extremely good for you, and can certainly assist in losing weight. Broth is made by mixing cut up veggies with water. I usually cook mine for 6-8 hours or so. I'll start alot of my meals with a cup of broth so I end up getting fuller quicker and eat less. You can also eat the cooked vegetables if you desire, or leave them in the broth for a healthy veggie soup. Broth has many healthy properties, thus, will keep your body hydrated, and is very easy to digest.
