Birds can be a nice sight to see in your backyard when looking out your window. Many birds are harmless and eat predator insects and feed themselves on seeds that produce weeds in your garden. However, birds can also start damaging your garden, and leave their droppings in unwanted places. It is illegal to kill or remove birds and nests; so many people are trying to find humane ways to send the birds away. Some remedies from the store can be costly and unsightly, but there are many at home bird repellents that you can make yourself for little to no cost, and they do not harm the birds that have made your backyard into their playground.

Many gardens have round, colorful balls in them, and many people think they are for decoration. These are actually a great way to deter birds from an area. You can place these on a pedestal like a looking glass, or hang them from trees or off of fence posts. If you add circles to the colored balls, birds will mistake them for eyes and avoid these areas. Draw the circles in black to mimic eyes, and the birds will think that it is a predator and avoid the area.

If you do not already own a garden ball, there are other objects around your home that you can use as a bird repellent. Bright and shiny objects will cause a reflection and scare birds away from a spot. You can use old CDs, aluminum cans or tin foil and hang them around areas that birds frequent the most. This is a great way to deter birds from your garden, as well as making a nice decorative piece that is unique and interesting.

If you have birds that frequent your yard, you have an easy way to get rid of them that is free. Birds usually frequent the same spot because it is not dangerous and it provides some sort of benefit to them. You can go outside, or even from your window, and make loud noises, scaring away the birds. You can bang pots and pans together, ring bells, or smash trash can lids together. Whichever method you prefer will work in scaring away the birds. They may come back to the spot when it gets quiet, so make sure to keep a lookout at the specific spot and continue to make noise. If the noise is continually there when the birds come along, they will no longer come back to that area, and then you can stop making noise for good.

Birds like to perch on high places, and that can cause a lot of mess from the droppings they produce. One way to get birds away from these spots is by hanging helium balloons on the spot where the birds frequently go. Just tie the balloon to a string and tie it to something sturdy to deter the bird from the spot. The foreign object will scare the bird away from the spot, and it makes your house look festive at the same time.
